A long time ago, our ancestors Homo erectus and Homo sapiens domesticated fire, a feat no other creature had achieved. One day, Man discovered a new, invisible fire that allowed him to conquer the world. It was so powerful it could not be extinguished. Man reveled in possessing the power of the universe, but soon discovered this fire could create and destroy. These are nuclear waste. “Sans soleil” (Without Sun) is an experimental short film by the Grapain Collective, created with Les Productions du Désert. Set in an abandoned warehouse, it reveals a pyro-landscape depicting the disappearance of humanity and the extinction of the sun. Through sculptures, the artists envision a new age of fire, governed by uncontrollable, destructive forces. It shows a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by flames, where the sun symbolizes a nuclear reactor, representing both a source of energy and a devastating force with catastrophic consequences.
